19 months. That’s big stuff. It was tough coming up with things he loves because he loves everything these days. He’s such a happy kid.
Any and all things related to animals are high on his list, but elephants, dogs & cats are at the top for sure. He has so far refused to call any of them by name (although he did say “kitty” when he was much younger, he hasn’t said it at all lately), he prefers to use their noise to identify them. “Woof-woofs, meows”, etc. He’s loved elephants for a while now, but this Coldplay video has solidified his love for them. He’s very recently started pretending he’s a dinosaur. After reading about dinosaurs who eat plants, he even pretended to snack on some bushes yesterday while growling wildly.
He spends most of his time at home reading and snuggling his blankie, building with his blocks (and knocking them over), and singing and playing his guitar while Daddy plays his.
We have a busy schedule these days, so Elmo time has been dramatically decreased (yay!), but he still loves the little guy and talks about him often. We go to a mommy-and-me gymnastics class once a week, which he refers to as “jump-jump.” He loves sliding down the slide into the foam pit, jumping on the trampolines, walking the balance beam, hanging on the bars and basically having free reign to jump and climb on anything and everything he sees. He is very scared of his coach and runs in the other direction whenever he comes to try to help him with an activity. But then at the end when he brings out the stamp to stamp his hand, Knox suddenly loves him.
I also teach a parent-child music and movement class twice a week which Knox attends with me. He is a big time music lover and it is so fun to watch him enjoy himself and to be able to bring him to work with me.
We have playgroup at least once a week, but I try to make it to two playgroups if I can find the time between all of that and my other job. He really seems to enjoy being around his peers, so I like to give him every opportunity that I can to allow for that.
What does Mommy love about 19 months? Pretty much everything. This is a really, really fun age. He has his moments, of course, but mostly he is sweet and very amusing. Sometimes we will be just sitting around reading books or playing with toys and he will suddenly stop, look at me briefly and says softly “ah, Mama,” right before he gives me the biggest, sweetest, most genuine hug (and very rarely even a kiss!). My favorite part: while he’s hugging me he says “Awwww.”
I guess he knows how sweet he is.
