Deciding on a theme for Knox’s 2nd birthday party was definitely not a challenge. Finding time to plan and prepare for it with an almost 2 month old, an almost 2 year old, an upcoming wedding/road trip & a house on the market, now that was a challenge. But, I like a good challenge, and Knox is lucky enough to have an awesome daddy who helped make his birthday so special.

In between feedings, playgroups, story time, trips to the park, loads of laundry, house cleanings & lots of packing, I put together this felt “Rawr” bunting for the front porch.

Knox’s inflatable T-Rex birthday present & chalkboard welcomed guests to the party & we made a little dinosaur nest for the favor table.

The kids wore these masks and hats to show their dinosaur spirit. I got the idea for the party hats (and a few other ideas) from Wants & Wishes, but instead of using their printable, I cut out the spikes from cardstock & slipped them into the side of the hats, securing them with a little tape at the bottom. What I didn’t realize is that 2 year olds don’t wear hats for more than 5 seconds, so these were kind of a flop, but so cute, nonetheless!

I made some simple party favor bags with lunch bags & stamps, these were used to collect eggs in the Dinosaur Egg Hunt (which I forgot to take pictures of).

I vowed to keep the food simple, having learned my lesson at his 1st birthday party.

Knox loved the cupcakes that Daddy helped me make, but mainly because he wanted to play with every single dinosaur on top of every single cupcake.

Daddy also carved this T-Rex Melon. Creativity credit goes to The National Watermelon Promotion Board (yes, such a thing does exist).

We had Knox’s favorite juice boxes & yogurt squeezers. I also made some little dinosaur chocolate candies using a simple mold.

Knox’s favorite part of the party was the Dino Dig. We ordered some fossil toys from Amazon & hid them in this tub full of dirt. It was a hit! Knox was supposed to get a sandbox for his birthday, but Daddy ran out of time before the big day, so this was the next best thing & he loved it, along with the other party guests.

Here’s Lily, our favorite tumblr buddy, having some fun at the dig!

We also broke out the baby pool to cool the kids down on a hot, hot day.

And sang happy birthday & ate cupcakes in the grass.

I remember being a bit disappointed last year that there weren’t many kids at his party, but this year our house was filled with little feet. He’s made lots of good friends in the past year & we are so thankful for each and every one of them.
A fun time was had by all!
